By day they are normal men and women, but at weekends they become marauding medieval knights and maidens.
The weekend warriors, who call themselves the New Varangian Guard, will descend on Esk later this month to showcase the earlier Varangian Guardsmen of Viking origin and their many exploits and accomplishments.
The group, comprising men and women from across the state, will join forces with Esk’s Ormsgard Dark Age Group to showcase a fine selection of medieval and historical re-enactments at this year’s Brisbane Valley Multicultural Festival.
The popular festival, which gets under way on July 31, will concentrate on promoting the region’s diversity through colours, creations and a range of interactive displays.
Festival co-ordinator Desiree Mahoney said the festival would also include a healthy living lifestyle component with the region’s first Mind Body and Wellbeing expo.
“The festival will still include all the old favourites like the all-day multicultural concert, heritage cars and vintage motor bike,” Ms Mahoney said.
